Week 3: Realism and Expressionism

This week discussed the differences between showing something as being real, and alluding to something through expression.  While Arnheim views film as the culmination of the arts, I believe that there is still room to go.  Technology these days just keeps progressing, with 3D, or even the 4D experiences available in theme parks (which includes motion in the chairs and physical things like water and steam being sprayed at you to bring the effects out to you, and you into the experience/story) there are new limits being reached and broken all the time in the world of 'film'.

The film of the week was 'The Bicycle Thief', which it turns out is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.  Rather than putting the entire film here in this post, I have included a trailer that shows the highlights of the film, while having a commentary over the top of it, listing the films accolades.
